We’ve landed.
After 3 months of stealth mode, sneak-peeks, and surprise announcements, we have finally hit launch day.
Our website is now live. It includes a wealth of information about who we are, what we stand for and how you can get involved.
We have also released a special episode of Infinite Loops, hosted by Patrick O’Shaughnessy, in which Jim chats through the rationale behind founding OSV and the positive impact he wants it to have on the world.
In the meantime, here’s a bit more about us. You may find that, by the time you have finished reading this post, the great idea you have had swirling around the back of your head suddenly seems a whole lot more possible.
Why we're here
A global pandemic has collapsed geographic boundaries. Rapid developments in artificial intelligence have reshaped the contours of human capability. An explosion of independent media has diminished the power and influence of the traditional gatekeepers.
To paraphrase Spiderman’s Uncle Ben, with great change comes great opportunity. We believe that we are at an inflection point, and that the collapse of the old models could unleash a new era of creativity and opportunity.
We call it the Great Reshuffle.
Amid the societal transformations incurred by the Great Reshuffle, our hunch is that the possibilities for positive sum, asymmetric opportunities are infinite. Our role at OSV will be to inspire, identify, fund, support and cultivate these opportunities.
Even in the few months we’ve been building OSV, all the evidence has suggested that our hunch is right.
When Jim let the cat out the bag back in late-September 2022 by announcing his investment in Stability AI, we hastily pulled together a landing page to try and harness some of the excitement that had been generated on Twitter. Within less than 24 hours, we had nearly 1,000 subscribers.
Since then, some of the conversations we have had with founders and creators have been simply incredible, and we have some exciting announcements to make over the coming weeks.
What this all tells us is that there is a phenomenal amount of talent straining at the limits imposed by the old ways of doing things.
We’re going to unleash it.
What we do
There are currently four ‘verticals’ within OSV:
1) O’Shaughnessy Fellowships: One year. $100,000. The O’Shaughnessy Fellowship is a one-year program for ambitious people who want to build something great. Fellows can work on whatever project they want, including (but not limited to) pieces of art, music, a new company, software, deep scientific research, stellar pieces of journalism, documentaries, sculptures and more. Fellows receive funding and access to our network of founders, investors, and experts to support them in bringing their project to life. Apply today!
2) Infinite Adventures: Inspired by the original name for venture capital, this vertical hunts down and funds early-stage opportunities and teams. We’re interested in the original thinkers who are compelled to do things differently and who may be overlooked by conventionally minded VC firms. We are storytellers at heart: we don’t just provide capital, we also amplify our companies’ stories through our ever-growing media network.
3) Infinite Films: Are you tired of watching a remake of a sequel to a franchise based on a remake of a copy…? So are we. That's why we're taking a new approach to filmmaking and creating original films that inspire and uplift audiences. Everyone who works on an Infinite Films production will own a piece of that movie. Our first film is a documentary on the brilliant Dr David Rhoiney.
4) Infinite Media: We are passionate curators. In an era of abundance, the ability to filter out the noise from the signal will be more important than ever. Many of you will have listened to our podcast Infinite Loops and / or subscribed to our Substack. As well as continuing to grow these into some of the best places on the internet for exploring and engaging with transformative ideas, we are also building a new media ecosystem consisting of carefully curated content.
